Samsung is Inviting Galaxy S8/S8+ Owners in the US to Test Preview Version of Bixby Voice

Ater months of delay, Samsung’s Bixby Voice is finally here… at least in a preview version. Samsung yesterday announced that they are launching an early access program for the Bixby Voice assistant in the US. The program will allow select Galaxy S8/S8+ owners to try out a preview version of Bixby Voice ahead of the final release.

As a refresher, Samsung announced its own virtual assistant Bixby during the launch event of the Samsung Galaxy S8 back in March. The service was supposed to come pre-loaded on every Galaxy S8/S8+ device, however, that didn’t happen as the Bixby’s voice capabilities weren’t fully ready for prime-time use. Samsung said at the time that only Bixby Vision, Home, and Reminders would be available at the time of launch in the US, with the promise to roll-out Bixby Voice feature in Spring. Earlier we reported that the reason behind the delay was due to Bixby Voice struggling to understand English syntax and grammar and that the service won’t be ready until late June.

If you’re a proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ and want to give Bixby Voice a shot, you can sign up for the Bixby Voice Early Access Program here. Samsung is allowing only a limited number of participants in the preview program so you might want to hurry if you’re really looking forward to trying out Samsung’s virtual assistant.

Samsung claims Bixby Voice will be able to handle complex tasks across many apps. For example, you could ask Bixby to take a selfie and then send it to a friend, share your location, organize your photos and so on “with a mix of voice commands and touch.” Moreover, Samsung says they plan to continuously update Bixby with support for more languages, new features, and integration with third-party apps and smart devices.

There is no word on exactly when the final version of the Bixby Voice will be ready. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Bixby Voice compares against the likes of Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
