SEGA Forever Allows You to Play Classic Games For Free On Android

Retro gaming fans may have just got the best news in a while. SEGA has just officially launched the SEGA Forever collection which allows gamers around the globe to play classic games for free. The list of games is relatively short, but will soon include nearly every SEGA game ever released from every console era – Master System, Genesis/Mega Drive, Dreamcast, and more.

While the games is free, the company will still make money, as it plans to get some revenue through short adverts that play before you start a game. In the future, SEGA plans to add a subscription service that will get rid of ads for a small fee. It’s certainly a better solution than selling every game for a couple of dollars, and there are many ways to pay for and play these games anyway.

At this moment, SEGA released five games, including hits of our childhood.

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog
  2. Altered Beast
  3. Phantasy Star II
  4. Kid Chameleon
  5. Comix Zone

The company plans to release a new game every two weeks and slowly include the titles from the gaming consoles. Every game will be playable offline and offer such features as cloud saves, online leaderboards, and Bluetooth controller support. Your Android TV box can become a decent retro gaming cons0le with a handful of classic hits.

The slow roll-out of the games gives SEGA enough time to adapt them to mobile devices. Most of them were never intended to work on handheld devices, and the Japanese company needs to figure out how to make them compatible and easier to play. Some classic games from SEGA are incredibly hard to play, even on a console, and specially on a touch screen!

You can find the Forever series on its official websites. Additionally, you can find the games directly on the Google Play store. Some games might not be available in all countries (Sonic wasn’t available in Poland), but this might be temporary.

What do you think of SEGA’s move? Are you planning to play the Forever series on your mobile or tablet? Let us know in the comments!
