Dual-Screen Yota3 Smartphone Announced, Will Arrive Later This Year Starting at $350

Not many manufacturers decide to createtruly unique phones anymore. Every smartphone looks almost the same, and has similar hardware specifications. The original YotaPhone was a breath of fresh air with its e-ink display on the back side, even if very few people had a use for such a phone at all. During the Harbin’s China-Russia Expo over the weekend, the new Yota3 has been announced bringing the same signature feature.

This smartphone’s predecessor, the YotaPhone 2, was released in December 2014. The then-Russian company’s device was available for some regions including Russia and Europe, but sadly not in the United States. Since the release, the once-called “Russian iPhone” relocated its assets from Moscow and Finland to Shenzhen in China and changed the name to Baoli Yota, as a result of a fusion of the companies that took place in 2016. This time, Yota’s newest device is expected to launch both in China and the US.

YotaPhone 3, or simply Yota3, will debut in the early fall later this year. According to the spec sheet provided to Engadget, the Yota3 will come with 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display on the front and a 5.2-inch 720p E-Ink touchscreen on the back. There might be a fingerprint sensor on the front side. The handset will feature a somewhat dated though still popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 CPU, 4GB of RAM, dual-SIM support (one slot can be used for microSD card), a 12 MP back camera, a 13 MP front camera, a 3,200 mAh battery, and USB Type-C port. YotaPhone 3 will be available in two variants — with 64 GB of storage for $350, and with 128 GB for $450.

Given the price and hardware specifications, the Yota3 might become a decent device for those who look for a mid-range device with something unique. According to reports, the device should start shipping between October and November of this year.
