Take Better Photos on Android with this $8 Lens Kit

hese lens kits have been around for quite some time and many people have picked up a kit to improve the field of view on their Android camera. I decided to pick up the cheapest set that I could find and put it to the test. I’ve made a video for XDA TV showing a full review.

This kit comes with two different lenses. The fish eye lens will give you a significantly larger field of view. The macro lens will create a more subtle version of this same effect.

Fish Eye Lens

Here is how the fish eye lens looked on my Nexus 6P. Keep in mind that the Nexus 6P already has a very wide field of view. That is why you see those black spots around the corners. That is the inside edge of the lens overlapping the view of the camera. Let’s see the effect that it has on a device with camera that have a very poor FOV.

Here is the same lens being applied to a Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. This creates a much better FOV while leaving minimal black spots around the edges.

Macro Lens

The macro lens hit the sweet spot for me. It significantly improved the amount of space captured in a photo while leaving little to no black spots around the edges. Even thought the front facing camera on my tablet is pretty terrible, I still use it for my secondary snapchat account. Now my snaps look much better using the lens.

After using the kit quite a bit, I can say that it’s definitely worth an $8 investment.
