Android Nougat Coming to Many Sony Devices, Xperia Z3 Not on The List (Yet?)

Android Nougat is one of Android’s sweetest releases yet, that much is true. With long-awaited features like multi-window and a plethora of user experience refinements, almost everyone wants to at least get a taste of that sweet software!

Luckily for Sony fans, the Sony Mobile Team just announced that they will be making Android 7.0 Nougat available for many of their devices, including Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Performance. That’s 9 devices announced in this batch, but keep in mind that the rollouts will likely vary depending on the device, as we doubt that mid-range phones will get the same treatment as the better-selling flagships. More devices could be announced later, especially if requested by the community, as has been the case in the past.

Sony also says that they are really excited about new Sony features, functionality and improvements that they are making to the user experience. Whether that is something entirely new or inspired by what they had learned from some of their programs is something we can only speculate about. While this list does not include the Xperia Z3, one of the most beloved Sony offerings in smartphone history and a device that has received a lot of love and special treatment, including Nougat previews. It makes us scratch our heads a bit, but we know that such a popular device will get Nougat one way or another.

What do you think of this list? Do you feel like older Sony devices are being neglected, or is it entirely fair?
