Google’s Duo Video Calling App Launches Today

Google’s new video calling app will begin rolling out today (16th August) for download in the Play Store starting at 5:00 AM PST, for users who have registered their interest in the Play Store you should be notified as soon as the app becomes available to you.

Duo along with its partner app Allo have however drawn a lot of criticism even before launch, as many users feel that the apps send a convoluted message given Google’s fondness for creating new and additional messaging apps. The situation has not been assuaged as it became apparent that Hangouts and Messenger will remain separate apps and that there will be no cross-app messaging, Google Voice or SMS support.

Still not sure what the deal with Duo is? Take a look at the demonstration from Google I/O.
