Google Assistant gets better visuals for smart home controls

While the Google Assistant is certainly a powerful tool, it lacks a lot of visuals. Nearly everything is initiated with voice and returned with audio responses. So it makes sense that the visuals are lacking. However, on phones, there is a nice display that can be utilized. So the Google Assistant is now finally getting some better visuals, but for now, they’re only for controlling your smart home. Namely, you can control the brightness of your lights and the temperature of your thermostat via a slider.google assistant smart home

And if the slider isn’t enough, you can tap the plus and minus buttons to increase or decrease the value as well. There’s even a “turn off” button for your lights, so you don’t have to slide them all the way down. This small update is all about making things easier for you, and it appears to do exactly that. The devices being modified are even labeled, so you know what exactly you’re modifying and where. We first saw this feature rolled out for the Lenovo Smart Display, but now it’s slowly reaching Android smartphones. It appears to be a staged rollout, as we don’t see the new smart home control visuals yet.

Google has been working on expanding the Google Assistant for months now. We only recently got fast forward and rewind voice controls on Android, and you don’t have to say “Hey Google” quite as often. There are certainly still improvements to be made, but it appears that Google is improving upon the service nearly every day. Having a visual representation of the setting you just changed in your smart home means that you can make minor adjustments yourself as well, without needing to ask out loud. Needing to ask out loud every time can be cumbersome, and a quick tap of the minus or plus button can speed up the process immensely.

Let us know in the comments if the feature works for you on your Android smartphone!
