Xiaomi Mi A2 will support Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 in India only

The Xiaomi Mi A2 was recently launched alongside the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite at an event in Spain. Xiaomi’s events outside of China are usually held in India first, seeing as it is a priority market where the Chinese OEM shipped ~10 Million smartphones in Q2 2018 alone. Both the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite will be available in India too, as was announced at the launch event.

Xiaomi India has now confirmed that they will be launching the Xiaomi Mi A2 in the country on 8th August 2018 at an event in New Delhi.

If you have been looking forward to getting your hands on the latest Android One smartphone from Xiaomi in India, you will also be pleasantly surprised to know that the Xiaomi Mi A2 will support Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 in its Indian variants. As per information received by AndroidCentral, Xiaomi has stated that it will offer Quick Charge 4.0 exclusively for the Indian market.

It is currently unknown if this will be a feature limited through software or by lack of supporting hardware in the international models. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 used in the Mi A2 does indeed support Quick Charge 4.0, so the support for this feature is not surprising by itself. If the international variants are limited to Quick Charge 3.0 speeds through software, it will hopefully be possible to enable support for Quick Charge 4.0 through third-party modifications.

Even in India, the Xiaomi Mi A2 will still come with a standard 5V/2A charger. Users interested in quicker charging speeds will have to separately purchase a Quick Charge 3.0/4.0 charger. Hopefully for Indians, the preferential treatment with Quick Charge 4.0 will help them overlook the absence of the 3.5mm headphone jack.

What are your thoughts on Xiaomi’s Quick Charge 4.0 exclusivity for India on the Mi A2? How much do you think the device will cost in the Indian market? Let us know in the comments below!
