Honor View 10 arriving internationally January 8th, Honor 7X Red Model coming to U.S.

At a press conference during the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Honor, an offshoot of smartphone maker Huawei, announced that the Honor View 10 will head to new territories starting January 8. It’ll precede the launch of a limited-edition Honor 7X Red, which will hit U.S., U.K., and international shores in the coming weeks.

Starting January 8, the Honor View 10 will go on sale in India, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and Spain from HiHonor. It’ll be available in Malaysia and Russia in late January, Huawei said.

The View 10’s specs are nothing to scoff at. It has a metal unibody and a 5.99-inch FullView Full HD+ resolution (2160×1080) 18:9 display. Under the hood, the handset packs an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 system-on-chip (four ARM Cortex-A73 cores paired with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores) with an i7 co-processor and a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit), and 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (plus a microSD card slot). All of it’s powered by a 3,750mAh battery that can charge from 0 to 50 percent in as little as half an hour, thanks to Huawei’s Super Charge 22.5W fast charging technology.

Those aren’t the View 10’s only highlights. Its dual rear 16MP+20MP cameras, the former of which has a f/1.8 aperture and phase detection autofocus, support video recording up to 4K. And both the dual cameras and its front-facing 13MP camera leverage the Kirin 970’s NPU for real-time and object recognition, which automatically choose the ideal camera settings for any given environment.

Rounding out the View 10’s hardware is a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, 4G VoLTE, and NFC, plus a front-facing fingerprint sensor and 3.5mm headphone jack.

In terms of software, the View 10 ships with Android 8.0 Oreo with Honor’s Emotion UI (EMUI) on top, and a special version of Microsoft Translator that’s optimized for Kirin 970. Huawei says the chip speeds up translation by 500 percent.

A limited edition Honor 7X Red will launch in the U.S., Russia, India, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and Spain ahead of Valentine’s Day, Huawei said. It’ll go on sale at HiHonor later this year, and the first 100 buyers in each country will get a pair of red co-branded Honor-Monster AM15 headphones at no extra charge, courtesy Huawei’s newly forged partnership with peripherals maker Monster.

The Honor 7X’s hardware is no less impressive than the View 10’s. It has an anodized aluminum unibody and 2.5D curved glass, and a 5.93-inch FullView (2160×1080) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

In terms of internals, the Honor 7X sports an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 system-on-chip (four Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.36GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz) paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage (and microSD card slot), depending on the model. It’s got a 3,340mAh battery with support for fast charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 4.1, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. And a 8MP front-facing camera and a dual rear camera module make up the phone’s optics, the latter of which comprises a 16MP RGB sensor with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and a 2MP depth-sensing sensor.

On the software front, the Honor 7X ships with Android Nougat-based EMUI 5.1, but it’ll get an upgrade to EMUI 8.0 and Android Oreo in the first quarter of 2018, Huawei says.
