Anticipation’s running high for Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S9, and we’ve heard a relumblings already about when Samsung might launch it. Nothing is official until the Seoul, South Korea-based company confirms it, of course, but a new report suggests that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S9 in the week leading up to Mobile World Congress 2018, on February 27.
According to South Korea-based publication The Bell, which has a reliable track record, Samsung will schedule a press event event for exactly one day before Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. If true, it might be our first official look at the Galaxy S9 and S9+, the successors to this year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
It seems like almost every year, reports claim that Samsung will launch an new Galaxy flagship earlier than ever before. For instance, one source recently said that the Galaxy S9 would make a cameo appearance at CES 2018, which looks increasingly unlikely.
Still, that hasn’t stopped rampant speculation about the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+’s launch window, partly because Samsung has a history of moving smartphone announcement dates around. The company launched the Galaxy S6 in April 2015 after unveiling it in March of that year, and shipped the Galaxy S7 in March 2016 after a February event. The Galaxy S8, meanwhile, went on sale in April after it was revealed in March.
As for what to expect from the Galaxy S9 and S9+, there’s a good chance the new smartphones will pack upgraded iris scanners, rear-mounted fingerprint sensors, and designs fairly close to the current-gen Galaxy flagships. That’s all subject to change, of course, but so far, Samsung’s next high-end smartphones are shaping up to be more evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
