The Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL were announced on October 4th, and since then, Pixel enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for their release. Google promised the second-generation Pixel phones would have a much smoother roll-out in terms of availability, and at least in the United States, they seem to be living up to that promise. With the reviews embargo lifted yesterday, the time for general availability is ripe as Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL pre-orders are now shipping. Also, both Pixel phones will be available in Verizon stores from October 19.
To recap, Google stated at the launch event that the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL would be available in a total of six countries with three additional countries being added at a later date. The availability roll-out varies country-by-country with the result being that in countries such as the UK and India, the phones would be available at a later date when compared to general availability in the United States. In India, for instance, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL have been announced, but availability will start from November 1 and November 15 for the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL respectively.
However, in the United States, the phones were slated to be available from mid-October. Verizon is still the exclusive carrier partner for the Pixel 2 phones, but Google is selling unlocked models on the Google Store which work with all carriers in the U.S. Most variants of the Pixel 2 phones were quickly sold out on the Google Store once pre-orders opened, with the estimated shipping time slipping into weeks as time went on.
The good news for early adopters is that Google has started shipping the pre-orders, with some buyers already receiving the device. It seems that buyers who were part of the later batches of pre-orders still haven’t been notified of order shipping, which means they will have to wait a bit more.
The Verizon Pixel 2 variants have a plus point, in terms of in-store availability. The Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL have been on live demo for a week now, and we have covered various software features found on the Android 8.0 Oreo build of the Pixel 2. Now, Verizon has stated that Pixel 2 phones will be available in most Verizon stores on October 19.
As a reminder, the Pixel 2 costs $650 for the 64GB version, and $750 for the 128GB version. The Pixel 2 XL starts at $850 for the 64GB version, and goes up to $950 for the 128GB version. Both Verizon and the Google Store are selling these phones at the same price tags.
