OxygenOS Open Beta 20 is Available for the OnePlus 3, Open Beta 11 for the OnePlus 3T

OnePlus has been focusing on the launch of the OnePlus 5 as of late, and it’s fair to say that it hasn’t been the smoothest launch for the company. However, there are still many people who still own the company’s 2016 flagships so it’s good to see they’re still working on software updates. We’re still hoping to see these two devices receive Android O before the end of the year, but there’s a new OxygenOS open beta for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T owners to try out now.

If you’re running with the OnePlus 3, then OxygenOS Open Beta 20 is currently available to download and if you’re using the OnePlus 3T then you’re now able to install OxygenOS Open Beta 11. While these updates have now been unified for the 3 and 3T, they’re sporting different version numbers since they were released at different times. If you’re currently already running the open beta software, then you should receive an OTA update notification shortly.

We’re not seeing any new features included in these updates, but OnePlus is focusing on optimizations as well as squashing some bugs that have been reported by the community. This update brings some visual effects improvements to the weather widget and has improved the way it calculates data usage statistics so that it’s more accurate than before. The expanded screenshot feature will now work even GIFs and videos are playing on the screen (although this has been marked as experimental).

An interesting change here is that OxygenOS will no longer change the status bar to orange when you have enabled battery saver mode. Instead, you’ll just have a persistent notification that tells you battery saver mode is currently active. The update is also said to fix some 3rd-party application crashes, a Bluetooth battery indicator bug has been resolved, and a bug has been squashed that prevented the Weather application from pulling forecast data.

As mentioned, if you’re already on the open beta channel then you’ll see an OTA update notification about this update. If you aren’t though, then you can grab it from the OnePlus download page and manually flash it on top of your current OxygenOS firmware.
