Motorola Unveils the Moto E3 and Moto G4 Play for UK

The Moto E series from Motorola’s portfolio was due for an upgrade, and it has finally received it. Meet the new Moto E, a device that is to shoulder Motorola’s low-end legacy for 2016.

So what has changed with the Moto E?

For starters, the Moto E now comes with a 5″ HD display. That’s a decent upgrade from the 4.5″ 540 x 960 display from the previous model, and consumers on the low end will definitely appreciate this step up on the display end. The Moto E 3 fills in the void left behind by the Moto G lineup in the 5″ form factor, so customers still have a choice if they wish to remain with smaller (albeit underpowered) phones.

Moto E3

The inside of the Moto E, as expected honestly, is nothing fancy. Lenovo mentions a quad core processor and RAM and internal memory are unknown at this stage as well, but hopes are better kept low because this is purely a budget device. What is confirmed is that there will be support for microSD cards, so you can possibly live with the limited storage. The device will also pack in a 2800mAh battery, and will have some form of water repellent coating. There will be an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The device will also come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Moto E3 will be available in the UK from Amazon, Tesco, Argos and O2 in early September with a price tag of £100 ($133). The device should be made available in the international market sometime, but again, no information is available on that end.

Along with the Moto E3, UK will also receive the Moto G4 Play. The Moto G4 Play comes with a 5″ HD Display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC, 2GB RAM, 16GB Internal memory with microSD support. The device will also have a 2,800 mAh battery, 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, and will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

If you get a feeling of déjà-vu, you aren’t alone. The Moto G4 Play sounds very similar to the aforementioned Moto E3 on a lot of fronts, so we’re confused regarding the product placement of the Moto E3 and the Moto G4 Play, as they currently compete with each other in addition with the rest of the market forces. The Moto G4 Play arrives in the UK a bit earlier, in mid-August with a price tag of £130 ($173). The Moto G4 Play is also rumored to be launched in India in a few days, for a reported price tag of Rs. 8,999 ($135), which does not match very well with the UK prices at the moment, but does match the price of the Moto E3…

We’re hoping the confusion on the Moto E3 and the Moto G4 Play clears up in the near future. But as of now, the devices do not really seem to stand up to the current market competition, at least in the Indian market.
