Google Rolls Out January 2016 Security Patches, Factory Images Available

Last year was a rather eventful one in terms of mobile software security, one which saw the rise and subsequent fall of the infamous Stagefright vulnerability, and around halfway through the year, Google and few major OEMs vowed to push monthly security updates to maintain a continuous integration cycle of patches and thus stay ahead of vulnerabilities and the usual 6 month update cycle.

Since the announcement, Google has been making good on its promise every month, supporting devices for up to 3 years from launch, or 18 months after it left the Play Store. January is just getting started, and sure enough, the week was kicked off by the latest patches being rolled out, as well the relevant factory images being published. This release sees the patching of 5 critical, 2 high and 5 moderate severity issues, with the patch source codes expected to hit the AOSP repository within the next 48 hours.

You can find the builds here.
