The Samsung Galaxy Tab Advanced 2 has been leaked in an official regulatory photo for the first time. The Galaxy Tab Advanced 2 is an upcoming Android tablet that has been seen in Samsung’s Bluetooth filings from May.
TabletMonkeys has leaked the first photo of the Galaxy Tab Advanced 2. The tablet will not have physical navigation buttons, just like the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab A2 (10.5). It’s the third tablet where Samsung has removed the home button and the capacitive buttons in favor of using onscreen navigation.
The Galaxy Tab Advanced 2 is a minor refresh of the original Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (SM-T580/T585), which was launched in June 2016. The differences in design are the removal of physical buttons, and the upgrade from a microUSB port to a USB Type-C port. There are no other differences in design.
According to TabletMonkeys, the official specifications include Android 8.0 Oreo and a 10.1-inch Full HD (1920×1200) display. The tablet will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7870 SoC just like before, which is a great disappointment. Samsung has been using the now outdated SoC in its budget phones since nearly two years, and it would have been a good move to upgrade to a more powerful SoC. As it is, the Galaxy Tab Advanced 2 will compare unfavorably with the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 in this regard, which is powered by a much more capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC.
The Galaxy Tab Advanced 2’s connectivity options will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. It weighs 525 grams, just like the older Galaxy Tab A 10.1. In terms of naming, however, the tablet is a successor of the Galaxy Tab 4 Advanced 10.1 (SM-T536). Therefore, it could have been named Galaxy Tab Advanced 5. TabletMonkeys also posted images of the tablet’s instruction manual showing the USB Type-C port, the onscreen buttons, and some of the installed apps.
